A railway system comprises two flat-topped rails 3, 4 on which run flangeless wheels 5, 6 and a central guide rail 1 of angular profile which serves to guide a wheel 2 of complementary profile. Arrangements are described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) for effecting the crossing of three and two sets of rails without movable parts. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 a vehicle can be switched from a single track to one of three tracks or vice versa and the switch has three guide rail switch tongues 11, 12, 13 each pivotally connected to its respective guide rail 1c, 1b 1a at 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP>, 10<SP>111</SP> and operated by a single interconnecting rod between limit stops 16, 17,
