Abstract

667,796. Rail trolleys. SMALLPEICE, C. D. P. July 6, 1950. [Sept. 12, 1949] No. 23477/49. Class 104 (ii). A U-shaped rail trolley to run on an elevated rail has two similar complementary halves 11, 12 secured together by bolts 19 passing through overlapping portions forming the base of the U each of the overlapping portions being provided with a plurality of holes 16, 17, 18 which allow adjustment.of the distance between the limbs 14 of the U, these limbs at their inner faces supporting the running rollers 31. A load carrying member is suspended from the trolley through a gap 20 provided by opposite recesses in the abutting faces of the overlapping portions. As shown in Fig. 5, these recesses may be spherical in form and receive the head 39 of a load suspension hook 40. The rollers 31 are mounted on ball bearings encased by plates held in position by expanding spring clips, Fig. 4 (not shown), the bearings being mounted on spindles 23 which are slidably mounted in the limbs of the U and locked in position by cotter pins 24 bearing against the flat bottom of a spindle recess 26 which limits the extent of axial adjustment of the spindle.
