Abstract
667,401. Centrifugal switches. LUCAS, Ltd., J. June 1, 1950. [June 13, 1950] No. 15642/49. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XXIV] A switching arrangement which may be used for the control of a road vehicle automatic gear change mechanism, comprises two centrifugally-operated switches, one having contacts b, d which close at a given low speed and the other having contacts c, e which close at a relatively high speed, and an electromagnet h adapted to close contacts j to maintain a holding circuit for itself and contacts k in the circuit to be controlled. The centrifugal switches are mounted on a common rotary body a and the "moving" contacts d, e are carried by spring blades f, g which may be provided with loading masses, i, i<SP>1</SP>. Connections to the contacts may be made by means of slip rings (not shown). In operation, the contacts b. d close at e.g. 350 r.p.m., and the contacts c, e at e.g. 1,500 r.p.m. A circuit is now completed from a battery l through both pairs of contacts to energize the electromagnet h which closes its contacts k, j. When the speed drops and contacts c, e re-open the circuit for the electromagnet remains completed through contacts b, d and j.
