Abstract

667,177. Hinged valves. NORMALAIR, Ltd., and RICHARDS, S. T. A. Jan. 26, 1950 [Jan. 27, 1949], No. 2267/49. Class 135. A hinged flap valve has a casing a with an interna seating k for a flap member d, the bore of the seating and the periphery of the flap member being elliptical so that the flap member may be introduced through the seating and subsequently mounted in operative position in the casing. The flap member d which is of dished form is mounted on a detachable pivot c and can be moved towards the closed position by a lever e carrying a roller f and mounted on a splined shaft g. The shaft g is carried in bearings h, i and carries an external operating lever j. In the fully open position the flap-member is accommodated in a recess b so as to leave the flow passage unobstructed. The flap member may be mounted on spigot bearings screwed on to bosses in the casing. Alternatively the flap member may be carried by a splined shaft to which a control lever is attached. The shaft may operate in screwed bushes one of which may be fitted with a screw for adjustment of end play. The lever e may be coupled to the flap member to permit of manual operation in both directions.
