Abstract
The invention comprises mucoitin sulphuric acid ester and zinc and cadmium compounds thereof. The compound mucoitin is obtained by treating a preparation of heparin in a diluted water-miscible organic solvent with soluble Zn or Cd salts, followed by conversion to the alkali metal or ammonium salts. The preferred solvents are acetone or methyl, ethyl, or propyl alcohol. In examples, heparin preparations obtained by known methods are treated with zinc chloride or cadmium acetate to precipitate the zinc or cadmium salt of a mucoitin sulphuric acid ester, followed by treatment with sodium or ammonium carbonate to give the corresponding salts, which may be precipitated from alcohol.
