Abstract

In a process of preparing carboxyamides of 1-methyl-piperazine, e.g. compounds of the general formula <FORM:0666457/IV (b)/1> where X represents a carboxyamide group, a 1-methyl piperazine-4-carbonyl chloride or the hydrochloride thereof is reacted with a primary or secondary alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic amine. The 1-methyl-piperazine-4-carbonyl chloride may be formed by reacting 1-methyl-piperazine or its mono- or dihydrochloride with phosgene. Examples describe the preparation of (1-3) 1-methyl-piperazine-4-carbonyl chloride and its hydrochloride by reaction of N-methyl piperazine dihydrochloride with phosgene; (4-8) the corresponding carboxyamide by reacting 1 - methyl - piperazine - 4 - carbonyl chloride with (4) diethylamine; (5) dimethylamine; (6) diisopropylamine; (7) ethylamine; (8) thiodiphenylamine. Salts of the amides, e.g. maleate, citrate or fumarate may be made by reaction with the corresponding acids. Specification 631,685 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to compounds of the above types where the 1-substituent of the piperazine nucleus is an alkyl group generally. This subject-matter does not appear in Specification as accepted.
