665,651. Magnetic tests and measurements. E.M.F. ELECTRIC CO. PROPRIETARY, Ltd. April 4, 1949 [April 30, 1948], No. 9104/49. Class 37. Apparatus for measuring variations in thickness or other dimensions comprises an oscillator and detector circuit wherein the inductive component of a tuned network in the detector is modified by the proximity of the object whose variations are to be determined, and means for relatively moving the inductance and the object to restore the output of the detector to a datum value. The inductance L<SP>3</SP> of the tuned detector, held at the end of a hinged rod 7, is located near two V-blocks 8 in which are placed the object 9, e.g. an electrode with metal. core and a flux covering, the distance between the coil L<SP>3</SP> and the V-blocks 8 being adjustable by rotating a cam wheel 10 on which the rod 7 rests, a gauge 12 giving the extent of travel of the coil L<SP>3</SP>. The maximum and minimum thicknesses of covering are thus located, and the difference determined from gauge 12.
