In an electro-magnetic. contactor, the forward and rearward contacts b, c are mounted on insulatory cross bars a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>3</SP> extending between side cheeks a<SP>1</SP> extending forward from a rear wall a, the above members together with a top wall a<SP>4</SP> forming a chamber where the hot gas and vapour can rise and pass out through a small gap a<SP>6</SP>. The contacts b, c are bridged by a movable contact d mounted on a bar e carried by the armature.
