Abstract

665,344. Potato-chipping machines. NEG. RINI, G. Feb 11, 1949. [Feb. 11, 1948] No. 3976/48. Class 5(i). A potato-chipping machine comprises a hopper 25 from which potatoes gravitate into a composite feeding and cutting device 5, reciprocating on rails 24 and cooperating with a fixed horizontal knife 6 which slices the potatoes. The slices then fall into the lower portion of the device which includes a set of horizontally-reciprocating vertical knives 11 between which the slices are pushed, to form chips. by fixed fingers 10. The feeding device is driven by a motor 15, through a gearbox 20 and a crank 17, and includes a ram 9 which pushes the cut slices into the lower portion of the device where they are engaged by the fingers 10 and forced through the knives 11 during the return stroke of the device. A plate 12 forming part of the reciprocating assembly supports the slices during slitting by the knives 11.
