Abstract
665,237. Variable-speed gearing. PIGNONE SOC. PER AZIONI. July 22, 1949 [Aug. 11, 1948], No. 19324/49. Class 80 (ii). In variable-speed friction gearing comprising a non-planetary roller 8 between toric races 1, 2, the roller is journalled on a slotted member 12 pivotally carried by a pin 14 on an external cranked support 7 rotatable in a stationary member 17 about an axis 19 parallel to the axis of the shafts and passing through the centre of the roller 8, the axis 18 of the pin 14 being inclined at an angle # to the axis 19. To vary the gear ratio, the support 7 is turned about its axis 19 so as to tilt the roller 8 about its contact diameter, the roller then precessing about the pin 14.
