Abstract

664,421. Printing-machines. LEECH, R. April 17, 1950 [Jan. 17, 1949], No. 1305/49. Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii). In a mechanism for actuating and controlling the actuation of perforators numbering or like devices for use in a printing press of the kind in which an operating lever 3 depressed by the impression cylinder, or platen, slides a bar 12 for operating the device, and by means of a pawl 5 and ratchet 6 rotates periodically an exchangeable control wheel or cam wheel 13 controlling the operation of the device so that it is operated, as desired at each printing operation or after a predetermined number of printing operations, the operating lever 3 is provided with a tappet 11 which, under the control of the cam wheel 13, is moved into or out of operative position between the lever 3 and the sliding bar 12 so that when the tappet is in operative position the operating lever can make a direct thrust through it on the sliding bar, but when the tappet is in inoperative position the operating lever has no effect on the sliding bar. The tappet is normally held in its inoperative position by a spring 15 so that it slides above the bar 12 but is pressed down to its operating position whenever the end 14 of a spring-loaded bell crank 22 which engages its upper surface enters a depression in the cam wheel 13. The cam wheel 13 is secured to or integral with the ratchet 6 and the shaft 7 on which they are mounted can be removed from the device to enable the cam wheel to be changed.
