[Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] A hand - operated travelling roller printing- machine is constructed with a pivoted operating frame 11 operated by a handle 13, and a pivoted frame 9 which is operated to move the impression roller 4 over the type 1 in afixed chase 2, the roller 4 being pressed into printing position as it moves to the right by'the engagement of antifriction rollers5 between upper and lower guide rails 6, 7 and as the roller 4 returns it is guided by a pivoted switch 8 to move on the top of the rails 6 and so out of engagement with the type. The type is inked by a freely mounted roller 28 mounted in a plate 28a which is integral with arms 31 pivoted to and operated by the frame 11. The roller receives ink from aplate 33 connected to pins 36 on the chase 2 in such a manner that the plate'33 can be dispensed with to permit of hand-operated inking. The plate 28a is fitted with a stripper 29 for removing the printed sheet, and prior to the printing operation the sheet is fed by hand against stop pins on a paper clip 14, 15, Fig. 10, mounted in the pivot 12 of the frame 11. As the frame 11 moves, the jaws 14, 15 of the clip close under spring action and owing to the action of a brake 24 on the clip 15, and the sheet 1 is clamped between an extension 17 of the lower clip 15 and the clip 14. The clip 15 is formed of a number of members extending through slots in the clip 14, and these members are longitudinally adjustable to enable the head space of the prints to be varied. The guide rails 6, 7 are spring-raised to positions controlled by bolts 39 and nuts 40 which permit adjustment to types of varying height. The ink roller 28 is provided with end discs 34 of larger diameter than the roller which roll on the chase where no type is in place and keep the roller 28 clear of the chase. The unit comprising the ink roller is readily detachable, and the plate 33 when not in use can be packed under the type.
