Abstract

624,752. Printing-machines. COMMERCIAL CONTROLS CORPORATION. May 1, 1947, No. 11687. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii)] A coupon ticket - printing machine is constructed with a number of impression rollers 121, 122... 128, Fig. 5, mounted in a carriage 70 provided with wheels 73, 76 movable in tracks 68, 69 on bars 60, 61, and adapted to print from rows of type set up in channels 27, 28 ... 32, and from a pair of number wheels 14a, 15a, the impression rollers being mounted so that some of them can be moved under the control of a manually-operated lever 150, Fig. 8, to a position in which they do not print as the carriage 70 moves over the type bed. The individual number-printing wheels are set by levers 16 ... 21, Fig. 3, and rack-and-pinion mechanism, and the number to be printed is visible through windows 26. A type ribbon 37 is movable across the type by actuation of a knob 40. The side edges of the sheets 112 to be printed are registered against a stop 53a, and the sheets are registered longitudinally by an adjustable stop 210a, Fig. 8, and are clamped in registered position by a gripper 180 secured to a pivoted plate 176 normally raised by a spring 186 but depressed by a cam 185 which is rotated clockwise by the action of the front 71 of carriage 70, Fig. 8, as it is moved to the right in preparation to start a printing operation. The front 71 acts on a cam surface 190a on the shaft 187 of cam 185. The carriage 70 is moved longitudinally by acting upon a knob 103. This knob is arranged to control the pressure exerted by the impression rollers, and it is connected to a cam plate 97 having inclined surfaces 97a, 97b, 97c, 97d, which act upon rollers 93, 94 on spring-raised slides 82, 89, in which the impression rollers are mounted. Before the printing operation the carriage 70 is moved to its extreme position to the right, Figs. 3 and 8, with the cam 97 in its inactive position so that the impression rollers are tripped. The cam 97 is then moved to the right in Fig. 5 (downwards in Fig. 3) to depress the impression rollers to printing position. The printing pressure can be controlled by adjusting the knob 103 angularly relatively to the cam so as to vary the position of its lower eccentric portion 103d relatively to the bottom 100b of an oval slot 100a which limits sliding movement of the cam 97. The maximum pressure occurs when the rollers 93, 94 are engaged at the junction of the cam surfaces 97a, 97c and 97b, 97d. The printing is then effected by moving the carriage 70 to the left in Figs. 3 and 8, and at the end of the movement the cam 185 is automatically operated to allow the gripper to release the sheet. The cam 97 is then operated to permit. the impression rollers to be raised by spring action. If an impression is required only from the number-wheels, a lever 150 is operated to rotate eccentric bearings in which the wheels 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128 are mounted, without tripping the wheels 121, 122 which are mounted in concentric bearings. The lever 150 is associated with a spring locking- device for holding it in its active and inactive positions.
