664,199. Fixing fireplace surrounds in place. MASTERMAN, A. W., and WRIGHT, G. A. April 11, 1950 [April 7, 1949; Sept. 29, 1949], Nos. 9500/49 and 24968/49. Class 126 A bracket for fixing a tile surround to a fireplace comprises a part to be fixed to the surround and a part to project from the surround, the latter part having an elongated slot extending transversely of the direction of projection of said latter part. The bracket is formed from a T-shaped blank, the stem of the T being bent to form parts 2, 3 which are embedded in the tile surround and a part 4 which lies flush with the rear surface of the surround The cross-bar 5 of the "T" is provided with an elongated slot which, by engagement with a screw 10, fixes the surround to a cement layer 9 between two bricks in a wall. The bracket may be secured to the surround by a screw or by a projecting lug embedded in the surround. The slotted cross-bar 5 may be separate from the stem of the T and be attached to the latter by sliding in guides (not shown) formed from the portion 4 which is flush with the surround so that it projects from the surround when it is to be fixed in place but is in the reverse position and lies against the rear of the surround for easy transport. Alternatively the crossbar 5 may be pivoted by a bolt 16 to the portion 4, which is flush with the surround. so that it may be swung behind the surround when it is not required to project for fixing in place.
