Abstract
663,537. Porous compositions. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 11, 1948 [June 14, 1947], No. 15757/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 70 [Also in Group XIII] The filling of a thermal regenerator, e.g. for a hot-gas engine or a refrigerating system, is made by embedding a tissue having textile fibres extending in one direction and metallic wires extending in another direction, in enveloping material, and subsequently removing the textile fibres so as to leave continuous channels in the enveloping material. In one form, a fabric, the warp and weft of which are respectively metal wires and more closely spaced textile threads, is embedded in a ceramic mass and subsequently rolled or folded up and baked. Baking hardens the ceramic material, and burns the textile fibres, the ash of which is removed, e.g. by compressed air. The wires remain embedded in the ceramic material. The ceramic material may contain fine metal particles. The fibres or wire used may be circular, polygonal or flattened in crosssection. The diameter of the channels may be 0.25 mm. and the coefficient of heat conductively of the mass 1 Î 10<SP>-2</SP> cal/cm<SP>2</SP> ‹C. sec. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subjectmatter of Specification 663,609, and a regenerator filling made by winding thread in a ring, embedding it in ceramic material, baking the resultant ring, and cutting it into pieces. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
