Abstract
663,609. Porous compositions. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 11. 1948 [June 14, 1947], No. 26673/50. Divided out of 663.537. Drawings to Specification. Class 70 [Also in Group XIII] The filling of a thermal regenerator, e.g. for a hot-gas engine or a refrigerating system, is made by embedding metal threads or wires, which may be parallel, in an enveloping material, and subsequently removing them wholly or in part, e.g. by melting, evaporation, oxidation or electrolysis, so as to leave continuous channels in the enveloping material. Wires at right angles to the channels may be left in the enveloping material, and for this purpose are made of metal which is resistant to the means used to remove the wires to form the channels. In one form, a fabric, the warp and weft of which are wires of different metals. is embedded in a ceramic mass and subsequently rolled up and baked Baking causes the weft wires to melt but does not effect the warp wires, which have a higher melting point. The ceramic material may contain metal particles. The wires used may be circular, polygonal, or flattened in cross-section. The diameter of the channels may be 0.25 mm. and the co-efficient of heat conductivity of the mass 1 Î 10<SP>-2</SP> cal/cm<SP>2</SP> ‹C. sec.
