Abstract

1357073 Soldering ASAHI GLASS CO Ltd 2 Aug 1972 36129/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] The subject-matter of this Specification is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,283,848, but the solder alloy used contains 2-98À5% by weight of lead, 1-97À5% tin, 0À1-15% rare-earth metal and up to 30% each of zinc and antimony. The materials having oxide surfaces which are soldered may be glass, ceramic, glass-ceramics, pottery, porcelain, refractory oxide, inorganic oxide crystals or any of the metals silicon, germanium, aluminium, titanium, zirconium and tantalum which form oxides on contact with air. The solder is preferably applied by an ultrasonically vibrated spatula and the surfaces on which the solder has been applied are engaged and heated to melt the solder.
