Solder-compsn. (by wt.) is 2-98.5% Pb, 1-97.5% Sn, 0.1-15% rare earth element(s), 0-30% Zn, 0-30% Sb, 0-0.1% Al, and 0-0.5% Si, Ti or Be. Pref. articles are vibrated, esp. ultrasonically, parallel to their soldering faces during soldering. The solder m.pt. is 220-320 degrees C. Materials soldered are glass, ceramic, glass-ceramic, pottery, porcelain, refractory oxides, inorg. oxide crystals, Si, Ge, Al, Ti, Zr and Ta.
