663,025. Draughting-machines. SMITH, J. W., and GRAF, V. Dec. 9, 1949, No. 31626/49. Class 97 (iii). In a protractor head for parallel arm motion drawing machines in which a holder 13 for rules 14, a plate 10 provided with an index 15 or a scale and a knob 11 are mounted together for rotation relative to a non-rotatable base-plate 3 carried by the parallel arms 1 of the machine, the base-plate 3 carries a scale or index member 5 which is adjustable thereon and co-operates with the index 15, a notched disc 9 normally fixed relative to the scale member 5 and baseplate 3 located beneath the plate 10 being selectively engaged by a lever-operated pawl 16 carried by plate 10. The lever 17 loaded by spring 25 is mounted flat against the upper side of plate 10, and has a peg 21 extending through an opening 22 in the plate 10 to engage the pawl 16, the opening 22 being covered by the lever 17. The disc 9 is notched to correspond with the commonly used angles and lies in a recess in scale member 5, being rigid therewith. The plate 10 covers the recess. A locking lever 27 pivoted at 28 has a shoulder 30 adapted to engage shoulder 31 on lever 17 to maintain the pawl 16 out of contact with disc 9. On'pressing the thumb-piece 18, an arm 33 on the head of lever 17 disengages the locking lever. The pawl 16 and lever 17 are pivoted on a common pin 19. Adjustable stops 35 are provided on the scale member 5 as described in Specification 663,024.
