Abstract
662,736. Vehicle heaters. EATON MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 13, 1948 [Oct. 2, 1947], No. 24001/48. Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] In a vehicle space heater, e.g. for supplying heated fresh air or for heating and recirculating the enclosed air, air is led by ducting 24 from an inlet (not shown) in a casing 12 to the middle portion A of a heat exchange core 14 and a cover 26 directs the air back through the outer portion B to an outlet 22. The heat exchange core 14 comprises tubes connecting headers for the flow of hot water. The ducting is a channel 24 sealed to the face of heater core which is supported thereby and by the cover. Air from a blower is delivered over the full height of the heater tubes of the core portion A by the channel 24 which tapers to the top of the tubes with a wall 56 at an angle to the core face. The heater is mounted outside the passenger compartment, under the hood and on the fire wall. In a modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), in which the heater is mounted inside the passenger space, the channel 24 for the incoming air is replaced by a hollow, truncated cone member and the relative positions of the air inlet and outlet apertures in the casing 12 are reversed, i.e. the inlet aperture is in a wall parallel to the broad face of the heat exchange core 14 and the outlet is located in an adjoining wall. A further, small outlet directs air toward the floor.
