Abstract
662,371. Steam turbines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 20, 1949 [July 17, 1948], No. 16321/49. Class 110(iii) The H.P. I.P. stages of a turbine using highly superheated steam are formed with a double casing of which the inner casing parts 34, 36 are formed with steam chests 62, 63 sealed at their forward ends by labyrinth packings 50, 51. The spaces 89, 90, 91 between the inner and outer casings are filled with steams respectively exhausted from the bladed portions 46, 35 and 36. The initial steam is introduced at 70 to a segmental nozzle box 65 and passes through impulse blading 66, 67 to the chest 62. The connection of the nozzle-box 65 to the pipe 70 and to the casing part 34 is described in Specification 637,771. Steam exhausted from the H.P. stage into chamber 90 is extracted through ports 80 and pipes 81. After reheating, the steam is returned by pipes 83 to the steam chest 63. The pipes 83 are welded to the outer casing and have packed telescoping joints with tubular formations on the chest 63. The inner casing parts are supported and aligned vertically by axially-extending fillets and located horizontally by radial pins 43. The stator parts 40, 36, 37 are also located by interengaging annular parts and these engagements are sealed by 93, 95, 96. The outer casing is supported by feet, at the axis level, which rest on the bearing pedestals 20, 21 and is secured to the pedestals by vertically flexible connections 28, 28a. 'The pedestal 21 is a part of the L.P. turbine casing which is located by longitudinal keys 29 at either end and transverse keys at the middle. The pedestal 20 is located by a longitudinal spline 31. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes an arrangement wherein the H.P. I.P. stages are in separate cylinders. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
