Abstract

Boxes; connected to source of high or low pressure; packing, non-metallic; packing, removable casings for.-In a steam-turbine, the two halves b, b<1> of the gland box are made integral with the corresponding halves a, a<1> of the end cover of the turbine casing, and the upper half has a clearance g and cover f to enable the halves of the packing- rings i and their casing h to be inserted round the shaft after the halves of the cover and glandbox have been bolted together by means of the common flanges c, c<1> and bolts d. The casing h may be in two or three parts divided axially into halves, and held in place by rings k, k<1>. The rings i may be prevented from rotating by means of a bolt t. Drainage tubes u connected to a duct v are provided for leakage of steam.
