Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for; draining.-A. box d is provided with two concentric cylindrical rows of labyrinth packing e, f engaging the drum and shaft of a turbine. The box is made in halves, and is mounted partly in the casing m and partly in a removable semi-cylindrical cover k to facilitate the removal of the parts. When the cover k is removed, the top half of the box d is removed through the opening, and the lower half by turning it about the shaft until it reaches the opening. A chamber g, formed by the box and the drum, is connected by a pipe l to a certain place in the turbine; and a chamber n, formed by the box, casing, and cover, is supplied with a pipe p which removes or supplies steam.
