661,889. Control mechanism. HERCULES CYCLE and MOTOR CO., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1949 [Oct. 27, 1948], No. 27852/48. Addition to 633,969. Class 136(i) In a modification of the invention of the parent Specification, a segment 15 to which a cable 21 is attached and a finger lever 24 are both mounted for purely angular movement about a common fixed pivot 14 and are connected to each other through a lost motion coupling 28, 29, the segment being movable with the lever 24 in a direction to tension the spring-loaded cable 21 and retained in successive angularly spaced positions by a spring-pressed detent 18 cooperating with staggered teeth 16, 17 on the segment, and movement of the lever in the opposite direction causing angularly spaced surfaces 26, 27 on the lever to engage successively with a portion of the detent 18 and move it clear of the teeth on the segment in succession to allow the latter to be returned by the cable. A hair-pin spring 18 is anchored on a peg 19 and retained in position by a tongue 33. One limb of the spring engages the teeth 16, 17 and surfaces 26, 27 and the other limb bears against the wall of the casing 10 in which the mechanism is housed. A portion 32 of the lever 24 is so shaped that when the lever is in a position corresponding to no tension in the cable, Fig. 4, this portion of the edge is parallel to and is engaged by a substantial length of the spring. The segment 15 and lever 24 are retained on the pivot 14 by a headed screw 30 and a bowed blade spring 31.
