Abstract

637,983. Retarding action of switches. ROTHERHAM & SONS, Ltd., and STOKES, H. H. June 18, 1948, No. 16417. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a time lag device a rack operating an electric switch is adapted to be moved smoothly into engagement with a pinion connected through a one-way driving means to a timedelay mechanism (e.g. a vaned member, escapement wheel, eddy current brake or the like). A leaf-spring 13 secured to the rack 11 has a part 16 bent to lie against a bevelled face 15 of the rack to form a spring tooth which prevents jamming when resetting the device. The spacing of the rounded extremity 17 of the spring tooth 16 from the adjacent rack tooth is slightly greater than the spacing of the rigid rack teeth. The rack may be rectilinear or arcuate.
