Abstract
890,163. Electromagnetic switches; electrically tripped switches; retarding action of switches. SCHLEICHER, H. April 29, 1959 [March 16, 1959], No. 14598/59. Class 38 (5). An electrical time delay device has a timing wheel which can be turned against the action of a spring through a distance proportional to the delay period desired, rebound of the wheel at the end of a rotary movement, e.g. the return of the wheel by the spring, is prevented by a weight which frictionally engages and rotates with the wheel. As shown, the timing wheel is a gear-wheel 10 and the weight is a disc 27 pressed against it by a spring 28. The time delay is set by rotating a disc 18 and tube 18a to which is fixed an arm 33 against which rests, under the action of a spring 22, a pin 23 carried by the wheel 10, the initial position of which is thus set. The time delay period is initiated by simultaneously energizing a coil 2 and an electric motor 11. The coil 2 attracts its armature 3 and moves a lever 4 to the left, thereby allowing a lever 7 to be moved clockwise by a spring 8 to engage a pinion 9, driven by motor 11, with the gear-wheel 10. The latter is thus driven counter-clockwise until a pin 19 thereon engages and trips a latch 17 to release a plate 16 which is pulled to the left by a spring 6. The plate 16 has an arm 16a which disengages pinion 9 from wheel 10 which is then driven back to its start position by the spring 22 which has been strained by the counter-clockwise movement. The weight 27 prevents rebound of wheel 10 when pin 23 meets arm 33. One or more of four contact sets 20 may be actuated by an adjustable card 29 upon energization of the coil 2, the remainder being operated at the end of the delay period by the leftward movement of plate 16. This movement of the plate is signalled by the letter " Z " moving into a window 21 ; similarly, the leftward movement of lever 4 is signalled by the letter " S " moving into window 15. The pinion 9 can be driven at various speeds by gearing 12, as determined by the setting of a dial 12a, the maximum times in the ranges being 6 seconds, 60 seconds, 6 minutes, 60 minutes and 6 hours. The plate 16 can be reset to the latched position shown by hand, or by the return spring of armature 3.
