Abstract

1,184,515. Reciprocating generators. BÍLKOW G.m.b.H. 17 May, 1968 [20 May, 1967], No. 23718/68. Heading H2A. [Also in Divisions F2 and F3] A mechanism for detonating a guided missile consists of a lever-and-spring assembly operated by a push knob, which assembly simulates the action of the trigger of a manual fire arm, viz. (a) operation is prevented until a safety catch or the like is released and (b) in operation there is a first-and-second pressure action. The actuating knob 3 is normally inaccessibly placed under a cover 4 which can however be pivoted, together with a spindle 5, to make the knob accessible and at the same time both remove a stop 21 from the free end of a first lever 12 and also operate arming switches 7 which cause or permit a missile to be launched. When the knob is depressed it turns the first lever 12 about its pivot 14 and compresses a spring 15 which connects the lever 12 to a second lever 13 also pivoted at 14. However the second lever is opposed by an armature 18 which completes the magnetic circuit of a permanent magnet 19 and is surrounded by a coil 20. The armature is held by a force greater than that exerted by the spring 15 but when, as ultimately happens, an extension 16 from the first lever 12 engages the second lever 13, further movement of the knob turns the second lever. This partly breaks the magnetic circuit, thus weakening the magnetic holding force which becomes less than that exerted by the spring 15. As soon as this happens the spring 15 itself tends to deflect the second lever 13 further, thus causing a rapid complete break in the magnetic circuit. The associated current surge in the coil 20 provides an output signal which can be used to detonate the missile.
