661,713. Cutting ice-cream &c. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. June 22, 1950 [May 17, 1949], No. 13065/49. Class 87(ii) A strip 11 of plastic material is cut into blocks 19 by opposed knives 18. The cut blocks are carried in pockets 14 of an intermittently moving chain conveyer to a wrapping machine. The links of the conveyer have pins 16 which run in stationary guides 17 and, at the cutting station, in movable guides 21. On operation, an empty pocket is moved beneath the strip, and is then moved upwardly by the action of a cam 37 on the guides 21, to a hieght such that the distance between the base of the pocket and the knives is equal to the thickness of the block to be cut. The knives 18 are moved apart to allow the strip to fall on to the pocket. The knives are then moved together to cut the strip and support it, until the next pocket is moved under the strip. As the knives penetrate the strip, the pocket is lowered slightly by the cam 37 to prevent the block from being squeezed by the knives.
