Abstract
Silver films are deposited on glass, porcelain, synthetic resins and other electrical non-conductors by the reduction of ammoniacal silver nitrate solutions containing small additions of one or more salts of lead or zinc, such additions being made in order to regulate the speed of reaction, to harden the film and to improve its adherence. Additions may vary from 0.0001 to 5 per cent of the quantity of silver nitrate present and may comprise zinc sulphate or thiosulphate, or lead nitrate, acetate or thiosulphate. Sugar or colloids or both may also be present; the reducing agent may be hydrazine sulphate. Specification 661,346 is referred to.
