Abstract

660,886. Reciprocating motors. STEWART, D. A., and WESTOOL, Ltd. Oct. 10, 1949 [Jan. 17, 1949], No. 1302/49. Class 35. In a hand-held electromagnetic vibrator the mass of the stationary parts is considerably greater than that of the moving parts and the spring-strengths are such that the armature resonates at the supply frequency. The electromagnet comprises a laminated central core 10 carrying a coil 12 and provided with a pair of side limbs (not shown) for the return flux path. The laminated armature 25 is secured to the working rod 22 which is positioned by a pair of springs 30, 31 housed in an axially adjustable sleeve 20 and acting respectively on the armature clamp 24 and an adjustable abutment 28 on the rod 22. This sleeve 28 may be screwed up by adjusting the retaining cap 29 so as to engage the end of the sleeve 20 and produce an impact if desired.
