Abstract
660,865. Microscope objective mountings. LEITZ GES., E. May 24, 1949 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 13840/49. Class 97 (i). A microscope objective holder is arranged so that the distance between two lens systems thereof can be adjusted to adapt-the state of correction of the objective to cover glasses of different thicknesses by simultaneous displacement in opposite directions, through paths of different lengths so that the image, if originally focused, remains substantially focused after the displacement. As shown the holder 1, adapted to be fixed to the microscope tube, slidably carries sleeves 12, 16 respectively carrying the components 11, 15 of the objective. A lever 8 having a central ring 7 surrounding the optical axis rests against a fulcrum 9 on the holder 1 and engages at one end a nut 13 on the sleeve 12 and at the other an edge 14 on the sleeve 16. A roller 6 on the outer end of the lever engages a cam surface 5 on a ring 4 rotatable on the holder 1 so that as the lever 8 rocks about the fulcrum 9 on rotation of the ring 4 the sleeves 12, 16 and with them the lens components are moved in opposite directions through different distances. The nut 13 is screwed into the sleeve 12 to permit adjustment of the ratio of the movements. In a modification the sleeves 12, 16 slide within one another and each has a cam slot engaged by a pin on an outer rotary adjustment member to cause simultaneous movement.
