Abstract
887,231. Microscope condensers. BARABAS, J., ZSELYONKA, L., KISS, F., and LIBIK, A. Oct. 6, 1958 [May 22, 1958], No. 31863/58. Class 97(1). A condenser for increasing the resolving power of microscopes comprises an exchangeable front lens having a plane exit face and a hemispherical surface and disposed at the opposite end of the condenser from a filter which has semi-transparent metallic layers on both sides of a transparent portion, the condenser being movable transversely to its axis. As shown in Fig. 1, the condenser includes lenses 28, 29, 30 of which the front lens 30 is exchangeable, being carried by a mount which fits over the main condenser mount 35. This mount 35 is slidable under control of a screw 43 in an annular holder 40 and also supports a filter 27, Figs. 1 and 5, which has transparent portions 54, 55a, 55b and 56 and semi-transparent portions 57a, 57b. Such a condenser gives central bright ground illumination which may be converted into circular bright ground illumination by using a front lens 30 with a masking cap 52, Fig. 3, fitted on to a central opaque part 50 of cement. Dark ground illumination can be obtained by provision of a mask 52 having a transmitting zone 51 of different width. By moving the condenser at right angles to its axis, combined dark and bright ground illumination is obtained. Specification 887,230 is referred to.
