863,068. Optical lenses. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. May 2, 1957, No. 30434/60. Divided out of 863,067. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XL(a)] An aspheric asymmetrical lens, particularly for use in the manufacture of colour television screens by the "optical lighthouse" method (see Group'XL(a) ) has a single line of symmetry and a variation of thickness t with the radius h of the lens along that line of N being the refractive index of the lens material and angles U 1 , U 2 , U 3 being as shown in Fig. 10 for a light ray emanating from the light source 47 and an azimuthal variation wherein # being equal to t o -t, # the azimuthal angle with reference to the line of symmetry and the coefficients α 2 α 3 &c. being empirically determined with reference to the errors to be corrected in the television tube.
