[Also in Groups XI, XX and XXXVI] A photo-diode or photo-transistor consists of a semi-conducting crystal 20 situated at the focus of a lens 25 formed by introducing a quantity of molten glass into a circular support 24 having a melting-point exceeding that of the glass, and cooling whilst rotating it about the optical axis of the lens to be obtained.
