Abstract
803,671. Microscopes. COOKE TROUGHTON & SIMMS , Ltd. Nov. 12, 1956 [Nov. 11, 1955], No. 32344/55. Class 97(1) . In a polarizing microscope, an analyser is wholly housed within the lower end of the body tube or body tube extension in the operative and in the inoperative position. Preferably, a holder 57 or 82 for the polarizing element 58 is pivotally mounted on pin 37 or 83, respectively, about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the tube. As shown, element 58 is mounted in cup 24 rotatable in member 4 by ring 44 or 86 coupled therewith by a rod extending from pin 37 and carrying a control knob or by spigot 94 respectively. In Fig. 3, element 58 is carried on two arms one, 64, engaging toggle spring 67 so that the element is spring loaded into both its positions, the element being located in the operative position (shown in broken line) by adjustable stop member 69. Ring 44 carries a scale ring 52 co-operating with vernier 55. A U-shaped clamping member 76, 77 is actuated by knob 80. The shaft of the control knob rides in a circumferential slot in the stationary member 4. In Fig. 6, spigot 94 also rides in a slot in member 4 and ring 86 carries a vernier which cooperates with a scale on tube 1. Holder 82 is spring loaded into both its positions by leaf spring 92, the inoperative position being shown in broken line. Slot 17 is provided for a compensator.
