917,696. Anthropometrical apparatus. FRANKENSTEIN & SONS (MANCHESTER) Ltd., P. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1960], No. 37097/60. Class 81(2). An apparatus for determining the range of movement permitted by for instance, a flying- suit comprises a seat 11 in which the subject is secured by straps 11, 13 and an arcuate member 21 having its centre X approximately at the centre of movement of the limbs and movable about a diametral axis A-A. The member 21 carries an adjustable index 26 carrying a graduated rod 31. The setting of the member 21 is indicated on a scale 24 and, when the apparatus is in use, it is moved through a range of angular positions in each of which the angular range and linear reach of the arm is measured by advancing the graduated rod 31 to touch the fingers for various settings of the carrier 26 around the member 21. The apparatus may also be used to measure the range of vision permitted by a helmet, the angular limits at which the tip of the rod 31 can be seen being plotted for various angular positions of the member 21.
