Abstract

600,877. Calculating-apparatus. WATTS & SON, Ltd., E. R., and BAKKE, A. B. Nov. 8, 1945, No. 29836. [Class 106 (i)] Calculating apparatus for navigation comprises one bar upon which is pivoted a second bar which is slidable longitudinally in relation to the pivot, the first bar having a stretchable scale of rubber or other elastic material. As shown, the apparatus comprises a rigid bar 1 in a longitudinal recess of which is provided a stretchable rubber scale 10 anchored at its zero point and which has its other end carried on a roller 12 which can be turned by knobs 14. Pivoted to this bar is a second bar 15 with a longitudinal slot 16 by means of which it may be moved in relation to the pivot 17. This bar terminates in a circular ring 18, upon which is pivoted a compass rose 19. A wind bar 20 is pivoted to the rose 19 and the friction is such that the bar 20 may be used to rotate the rose 19. The rose 19 is rotatable within the ring 18 under the action of a clamping device 27.
