Abstract

A composition comprises N,N - dimethylpropionamide and a copolymer of 75-97 per cent of acrylonitrile, 2-18 per cent of methacrylonitrile and from 1-10 per cent of vinyl acetate. A solution of the composition may be extruded into fibres by dry spinning, e.g. using air, steam, nitrogen or mixtures and optionally reduced pressure, or wet spinning methods, e.g. using water, alcohol and salt solutions. The fibres may be stretched, e.g. by drawing the fibres out more rapidly than the rate of extrusion. The copolymer may be prepared as described in Specification 655,748.
