Abstract
660,379. Apparatus for applying screwcap stoppers. SALES, H. A. Jan. 27, 1950 [Jan. 27, 1949], No. 2213/49. Class 125(ii) In a machine in which a cap is screwed on to a bottle, jar or the like by placing the cap between a rotating disc and an adjacent member having a limited sideways movement for tightening the cap, the said member is arranged for pivotal movement away from the disc after the cap has been finally tightened onto the bottle or jar, so that the latter may be withdrawn from the machine. A pin 10 carried by lugs 7 at one end of a member 5 passes through a slot 9 in a bracket 8, the member 5 being thus capable of limited sliding and pivotal movements. The other end of the member 5 carries a pin 12 for pivotally mounting between its forked ends a block 11. The latter is urged by a leaf spring 13 to normally lie squarely on an anvil part 16 while a cap 18 which has previously been screwed onto the neck of a bottle is placed between a rotating disc 4 and a rubber strip 6 fixed to the member 5. The bottle is held by hand, or other means, and the cap 18 rolls on the strip 6 to screw the cap firmly onto the bottle after which the disc 4, the cap 18 and the member 5 become locked together and the member 5 moves .sideways until the block 11 drops over the anvil 16. This allows the member 5 to pivot away from the disc 4 and the bottle can then be removed from the machine.
