[Class 44] To render a door lock applicable to right- or left-hand doors opening inwardly or outwardly, the bolt is reversible, the key-hole comprises a pin hole located on the longitudinal axis of the lock and opposite slots extending at right-angles to this axis and alternative sets of locking tumblers are provided with means to render one set inoperative. In the form of Fig. 1, the bolt tail 13 is formed with an opening 25 to pass a key inserted in the key hole 2, 3, 4, and is slidably mounted' on symmetricallyplaced pins 14, 15. The tumblers 5, 6, are pivotally mounted on the pins 14, 15, and urged by a spring 16 to the locking position where lugs 7, 8 engage shoulders 9, 10 on the bolt tail. A cam member 20 pivoted on the longitudinal axis may be rotated to displace one or other of the tumblers to an inoperative position. The cam member 20 may be operated by a lug 23, Fig. 3, extending through a semi-circular slot in the lock cover or by an arm 37, Fig. 4, mounted to turn therewith and positioned outside the casing. As shown in Fig. 9, one tumbler 6 may be displaced by a rotatable disc 38 formed with a key-hole slot and secured by a screw 40. In another form one of the tumblers is displaced by a plate having a pair of spaced pins movable in a straight vertical slot with hooked ends. Both tumblers may be pivoted on a single pin located on the longitudinal axis. In the form of Fig. 12, a composite tumbler 43 has locking abutments 44, 45 engageable with a peg 46 on the bolt and biassed to one or other position by a spring 48 engaging lugs 51 or 52 on the tumbler and pins 54 or 53 on the casing. The composite tumbler may comprise a plate slidably mounted on the bolt or casing for movement at rightangles to the longitudinal axis and biassed by springs in either direction.
