This invention relates to jimmy-proof locks, and more particularly to novel actuating means arranged for use in connection therewith.
Among the objects of this invention is to provide a jimmy-proof lock having novel a'ctuating means for operating the bolt, said a'ctuatin means having engagement with a relatively fixed abutment member within the I lock casing for holding the bolt in retracted or projectedv position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a jimmy-proof lock or the like having novel actuating means for operating the bolt, said actuating means being arranged for a straight line motion parallel to the axis of the I lock, and having a movable'member which has co-operation with relatively fixed abutment means for retaining the bolt in retracted or projected. position.

To guard against the possibility of a bolt being cut by a saw inserted between the lock casing and the amb piece, the bolt may be made of case b ard'cned steel or its equivalent, or I may provide hardened steel re-enforcement means to co-operate with said bolt so as to lie in the path of the saw. More specitieally, pins. 17 which are case hardened or the like are inserted into each bolt 16 adjacent to the outer portions of the lock. Thus the bolt maybe made of cheaper metal which, however, will. be of sufficient strength and toughness towithstand all stresses, while said 'pin renders the bolt saw-proof. I claim:
1. In a lock, the combination with a bolt, of actuating means for operating said bolt, said actuating means comprising a carrier movable along the lock, a swinging member mounted upon said carrier, and a crank member for operating said swinging member, and having abutment therewith, said crank being connected to saidswinging member to move said bolt, said swinging member being nor mally in abutment relation with said crank and out of abutment relation therewith when swung by said crank member in order to move the carrier, and said abutment relation operating to prevent movement of the carrier along the lock except when said swinging member is actuated as aforesaid.
2. In a lock, the combination with a bolt, of actuating means for operating said bolt, said actuating means comprising a carrier, a movable member borne by said carrier, and crank and abutment means within the lock eo-operating with said movable member to move the same out of abutment relation and then to exert a force upon said member which in turn imparts said force to said carrier to move the same and hence the bolt into pro-' jected or retracted position, and guide means within the lock for causing said carrier to move in a predetermined line along the lock between its extreme positions, the lateral component of said force being taken up by said guide means.
3. In a lock, the combination with a belt, of actuating means for operating said bolt comprising a carrier, a bell crank pivoted upon said carrier, resilient means co-operating therewith to retain said bell crank in constant normal position, a crank member for swinging said bell crank to cause said carrier to move along the lock to operate said bolt,

In alock, the combination with a bolt, of actuating means therefor comprising a carrier movable along said lock, a movable member mounted upon said carrier, said movable member comprising parts positioned upon opposite sides of the carrier, aplurality of cranks, one on each side'of the carrier and adapted selectively to engage the movable member upon the respective sides of the carrier to impart a force thereto to cause said carrier to move along the lock, means having abutment with the movable memberwhen the bolt is projected and when it is retracted at the extreme limits of motion of said actuating means to prevent movement of said bolt except when said member is swung out of the path of said abutment means by action of the cranks, and means tending normally to retain said movable'member in abutment relation.

A lock, including, in combination, a casing, a bolt retractable within said casing, a plate connected with and carrying said bolt, a crank pivoted to said plate, engagement elements secured to the outer end of said crank, and one of the same extending through an arcuateslot formed in said plate, and lockacti'iating means associated with said casing and contactable with said engagement elements for exerting pressure upon said crank to shift said plate and project said bolt.
