659,679. Time switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Aug. 17, 1949, No. 21439. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1948. [Class 38(v)] Energization of an electromagnet 1 causes a wheel 36 driven by a synchronous motor 3 to be coupled to a wheel 37 which thereupon drives a shaft 6 which through differential gearing 19, 20, 21 drives a preset arm 27 so that at a predetermined time the arm engages a pin 28 and releases a switch member 5 which, in addition to making a signalling or other circuit, breaks the circuit of the electromagnet 1; this causes the wheels 36, 37 to revert to their uncoupled state and the shaft 6 rotates backwards under the influence of a spring 8 which has been strained by the forward movement causing the arm 27 to move away from the pin 28, but this is held latched by the member 5, 32, engaging behind a projection 31 till just as the starting position of the shaft 6 is being reached a pin 13 on the shaft operates an arm 15 which by means of a pin 16 lifts the switch back into its original position. At this moment also a pin 44 on the shaft 6 moves an arm 46 away from under the end 47 of a lever 39 so that the recoupling of the wheels 36, 37, which now tends to occur owing to the re-energization of the magnet 1, is only now possible. Time setting is effected by an arm 25 which through gearing 24, 23 rotates the sun wheel 20 and thence the shaft 26 carrying the arm 27.
