Abstract

733,920. Toy locomotives. TRIX, Ltd. March 16, 1953 [March 17, 1952 ; Aug. 6, 1952], Nos. 6817/52 and 19779/52. Class 132(3). A clockwork driven toy locomotive incorporates a stopping and starting device, or a reversing device and the device is actuated by a remotely controlled electrically operated mechanism. A slidable yoke 3 is provided with bar magnets 6, 7 between which is a fixed electromagnet 8 connected to a battery 12 via a reversing switch 11, insulated running rails 1, 2 and locomotive collecting shoes 9, 10. Upon energising the electromagnet, a link 5 connected to a start-stop member or to a reversing member is moved by the yoke 3, the direction of movement of the yoke depending on the polarity of the electromagnet controllable by the switch 11. Alternatively, the yoke and permanent magnets may be fixed and the electromagnet movable. In a further modification, a single movable permanent magnet may be spring urged in one direction and repelled in the other direction by an electromagnet. In a still further modification Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), a U-shaped permanent magnet is pivotally mounted and a catch attached thereto may be brought into or out of engagement with stop members on a governor shaft or a helical spring motor by energisation of an electromagnet. Forward and reverse running may also be provided by embodying two driving mechanisms which drive in opposite directions, each mechanism having a free wheel device so that one or the other of the mechanisms can be allowed to drive whilst the other is stopped.
