Abstract

659,640. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd., FORRESTER, P. G., and TAIT, W H. March 17, 1949, No. 7326. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXXVI] A heavy-duty bearing comprises a shell of cast iron having its graphite in nodular formation, and a lining of bearing metal bonded thereto. Before casting the shell, cerium, magnesium or alloys thereof are added to the molten iron to produce a nodular formation of the graphite, and after casting the surface of the shell is treated chemically to remove graphite, silica and other non-ferrous constituents. The lining of bearing metal may be produced in situ on the tinned surface by casting, electrodeposition or by sintering metal powder. Alternatively the lining may be prepared as a strip and subsequently bonded to the shell as by soldering.

SU366919A1 (en) SECURITY-LUBRICATING MIXTURE FOR STEEL STEEL1 The invention is in the field of ferrous metallurgy, in particular with regard to the continuous casting of steel and casting into molds. The composition of such mixtures does not take into account the ash content of graphite. However, ash contains refractory components (SiO2, A12Oz, etc.) that contribute to the formation of coarse H1lac inclusions on the surface of the ingot and to the ingestion of the body of the ingot by nonmetallic inclusions. The purpose of the invention is to improve the quality of the ingot. This is achieved by the fact that the indicated components are taken in the following ratios, weight%: Graphite 60–79
