Abstract

[Class 44] [Also in Group XI] A clamp for attaching a lamp to a vehicle comprises a first jaw 15 of channel section having a part 6 with a bore 5 in which a lamp-supporting pillar 1 is adjustably secured by a screw 12 and a second separate jaw 18 also of channel section which has inwardly directed ends' 19 engaging the back of the first jaw and which has a threaded boss 23 through which a screw 24 is screwed to abut a bar 17 on the vehicle. The screw 12 passes with clearance through a lug 8 and engages in a threaded hole in a second lug, both lugs being formed at the sides of a longitudinal split 7 extending through the part 6 to the bore 5 therein. Fig. 7 shows an alterative means for securing the pillar 1 in a bore 48 in the clamp jaw. A cross bore 47 which breaks into the bore 48 contains two slidable bushes 49, 51 which are drawn together by a threaded screw 54 so as to grip the pillar between their recessed faces 53. The screw 54 passes with clearance through the bush 51 and engages the bush 49. All the clamping screws have flat sided holes of the same size on their ends so that they can be turned by a single key. Modified constructions suitable for .securing the lamp-supporting pillar vertically when the width of the bar 17 is disposed horizontally or when the bar 17 is itself vertical are described.
