659.175. Adhesive tape dispensers. KRUEGER, T. H. Feb. 2, 1949, No. 2899. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1948. [Class 18] The tape from a roll of pressure sensitive adhesive tape has a marginal portion 38 which extends beyond the edge of a tape feeding drum 30 or disc to enable the end of the tape to be readily gripped and removed from the drum or disc. The roll of tape 20 is mounted on a support 40 and retained in abutment with shoulders 48 in each of four arms 44 of the support by a plate 42. The support is mounted on a threaded sleeve 52, revolvable about a stationary spindle 54 so as to permit endwise adjustment of the roll to enable various width tapes to be accommodated thereon whilst retaining the required alignment with the feeding drum to provide the necessary marginal overlaps. The support is locked in position on the sleeve by a nut 72 screwed on the sleeve 52 pressing the plate 42 into contact with the roll and thereby preventing rotation between the sleeve and support. The tape extends from the roll round a. guide roller 26 and adheres to the surface of the drum 30. A handle 80 operating through a one way drive mechanism rotates the drum 30 and a second mechanism prevents reverse rotation of the drum 30 when the handle is returned to its original position. A stop 112 adjustably mounted in a slot 114 limits the movement of the handle, a graduated scale being provided adjacent the slot to indicate the amount of tape delivered for the various positions of the stop. A cutter 120 is positioned adjacent of top of the drum 30, against which the tape is severed after a length has been delivered. Alternatively the tape may be delivered-by a disc which engages the tape centrally so that it extends on either side of the disc. Also the guide roller 26 may be modified to accommodate two adjustable guide elements between which the tape is guided to the disc, this arrangement obviating the necessity to provide an adjustable support for the supply roll to align it with the disc.
