Abstract

658,867. Annular cutters. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and WALTON, K. Feb. 16, 1949, No. 4189. [Class 83 (iii)] An annular cutter 4 has a centring member 16 urged by a spring 15 to project beyond the cutting end of the cutter, and means to retain the member 16 in a retracted position against the influence of the spring. The spring 15 is housed in an extension 1 of the cutter between a plunger end 14 of the centring member and a disc 9 which can be secured in adjusted position by means of one or more screws 8 passing through slots in the extension. One or more pins 13 are provided on the plunger-end 14 to engage bayonet slots 11 in the extension 1 and provide the means for retaining the member 16 in retracted position when the cut is sufficiently deep to centre itself. When used with an abrasive paste for cutting glass, the cutter is formed of copper and has one or more helical slots 5; the cutter may, alternatively, be formed of other materials and have hardened cutting teeth or serrations.
