Abstract

599,593. Milling and boring cutters. SUCCOP, C. E. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24559. [Class 83 (iii)] An inserted-blade milling-cutter has the blades mounted in the body in holders that allow adjustment along the blade axis radially from the axis of rotation of the body and about an axis transverse of the blade axis in the plane of the body. The body 10 may be keyed or frictionally mounted on an arbor and has rightangled notches cut in the periphery for the reception of blade holders 35 and clamping blocks 20. Each blade holder has a knurled head, a slot 41 for the blade and spigots 39 that engage in an annular recess 18 in one face of each notch. Each block 20 has a tongue 26 engaging a groove 19 on the other face of the notch and secures the blade 40 and holder in the adjusted position by means of a screw 28 with a hexagonally-recessed head 29. Preferably there is a slight clearance 37 between the head of the holder and the face of the notch. To provide clearance when the blades are angled laterally, the body and blocks are bevelled at 31. Tools.-The tool may be used with a single blade and is stated to be applicable to annular slot cutting and, if operated linearly, to planing.
