[Class 83 (iii)] A tapered holder O for milling cutters and the like has inclined slots N to receive a similarly-inclined transverse key M in the cutter shank L so that end movement of the cutter is prevented when the key is in driving engagement with the slots. The end of the holder may be formed as a boss and be provided with further slots P to receive the forked end of a drift when it is desired to dislodge the cutter. The key, which may alternatively be made by cutting two adjacent flat faces on a piece of steel of circular section, is fitted in a broached hole in the shank.
