658,731. Preventing corrosion. CLEVELAND HEATER CO. March 19,1947, Nos. 7563, 7564 and 7565. Convention dates, March 21, 1946, Aug. 3, 1946 and Sept. 10, 1946. [Class 123(i)] Corrosion in a metallic hot water storage tank 12, having inlet and outlet pipes 21, 22, is prevented by an anode 25 of an alloy predominantly magne-i sium, the remainder of the alloy being adapted to regulate the rate of consumption of the magnesium and being at least one of the following elements, viz : - aluminium, zinc, manganese, silicon and calcium. A number of suitable alloys are specified. The anode may be in the form of a solid rod, or an iron or steel base rod coated with the alloy, which extends within the tank, for example from its top or bottom walls 13, 14, and is in electrical contact therewith through a securing plug 27. In a modification the rod 25 is secured to the tank wall by an insulating bushing and has an outwardly-projecting end connected to the tank by an external conducting wire, or, alter. natively, the rod is merely placed diagonally within the tank. In a further modification alloy strips are welded &c. to the inner surfaces of the vertical wall or walls of the tank.
